Louvered pergola cost in Ontario

We don't publish a price range for louvered pergolas because we have too few of our own completed jobs to quote one honestly. Instead, we price every pergola in writing after a free on-site measure, based on size, freestanding versus wall-mounted design, motorisation, footings and any lighting, heating or screens you add.

Black aluminum louvered pergola with an integrated retractable shade screen over a poolside patio

Louvered pergola cost in Ontario

A louvered pergola is an aluminum roof structure built from a series of hinged slats, or louvres, that rotate on a shared spindle. Instead of a fixed solid roof or a fabric cover, you get a frame that opens to full sun, closes to shed rain, or sits anywhere in between. It can stand on its own four posts in the middle of a yard, or mount to the house wall on two posts for a design that borrows the wall for support.

The louvres turn on a motor controlled by a wall switch, remote or app, and most owners run through open-shade-closed in a few seconds. Rain that lands on a closed roof is caught in channels built into the frame and carried down through the posts to grade, so you are not left guessing where the water goes. The aluminum frame and louvres do not rust, do not need repainting, and the finish is a powder coat chosen to match the house trim or fascia.

We install from a set of site measurements we take ourselves – post locations, roof pitch if wall-mounted, the existing patio surface, and where the electrical feed for the motor and any lights will run. Footings go in before the frame, then the posts, beams and louvre panels are assembled and squared on site, and the motor and controls are wired and tested before we hand over the remote. Every pergola we install carries a 5-year warranty, in writing, on the structure and the motor.

What it solves

Reduces UV exposure and glare benefit icon

A shaded room without losing the sky

Solid roofs give full shade but block the sky completely, and fabric covers block rain but not glare. A louvered pergola lets you dial the angle from fully closed to fully open, so you get shade at midday and full sun in the evening, without swapping covers or waiting on a motor to roll out a full fabric sheet.

Extending the patio season

Closed louvres shed rain, so a sudden shower does not end a dinner outside, and paired with heaters the space stays usable into cooler evenings. We are not claiming it turns a patio into a year-round room – it is still an open-sided structure – but it adds real weeks at each end of the season.

Protecting furniture and decking

UV and standing rainwater are hard on outdoor furniture, cushions and wood decking. Closing the louvres when you are away keeps the worst of both off the patio, and the built-in drainage carries rain down through the posts instead of pooling on the roof or dripping onto the furniture below.

Poolside and hot tub comfort

A pergola over a pool or hot tub gives bathers shade without putting a permanent roof between them and the sun, and the louvres close fast if the weather turns. Add side screens and the same structure blocks wind on an exposed deck.

Commercial patios that need to flex

Restaurants and patio bars lose seating on hot or wet days. A louvered roof keeps tables usable through both, and lighting and heaters built into the frame let the space run into the evening without separate fixtures. We quote commercial jobs the same way – on site, in writing.

What it costs

We put the figure in writing after the free on-site measure – every one of these is sized and priced to the opening.

What moves the number:

  • The footprint of the structure – a larger roof needs more louvre panels and a stronger frame.
  • Freestanding, four-post design versus a wall-mounted, two-post design.
  • Whether the louvres are motorised with a remote or app, versus a simpler fixed-pitch design.
  • Integrated features such as lighting, heating, screens or rain sensors added to the structure.
  • Site preparation – a bare patio slab versus a structure that needs new footings or anchoring.
  • The frame and louvre colour or finish chosen to match the home.
  • Access for the crew and equipment during installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have completed too few of our own louvered pergola jobs to publish an honest low-to-high range the way we do for some of our other product lines. Rather than guess or borrow a figure from somewhere else, we measure your site and give you the number in writing before you commit to anything.

A wall-mounted pergola uses two posts and the house wall for support, so there is less frame and usually less footing work. A freestanding pergola needs four footings and a fully self-supporting frame to carry the same roof, which is more structure for the same covered area.

It depends on the municipality, the size of the structure, and whether it attaches to the house. We check this as part of the site visit and tell you whether your project needs a permit before we give you a written quote.

The most common add-ons are dimmable LED lighting built into the frame, infrared heaters, retractable side or front screens, and a rain sensor that closes the louvres automatically. Each one gets priced and shown on the same written quote as the structure.

It depends on the size, the configuration, and whether footings need to be poured versus anchored to an existing slab. We walk through the schedule with you at the time of the measure so there are no surprises on install day.

Every louvered pergola we install carries a 5-year warranty, in writing, covering the structure and the motor. We'll tell you plainly what it does and does not cover before you sign anything.

Where we install this

Ontario's climate is part of why louvered pergolas make sense here: the louvres close to shed a sudden downpour, then open again once it passes, and the aluminum frame handles our freeze-thaw winters without warping or rusting. Local setback and permit rules vary by municipality, especially for structures that attach to the house, which is one more reason we check them on site rather than guess. We've completed 5 installs in Toronto and 1 install in Newmarket since 2022, plus work further afield in cottage-country towns like The Blue Mountains, so we've seen how differently a dense city lot behaves compared with a rural property.
