Outdoor privacy screens are retractable aluminum-framed mesh panels that roll down over a deck, balcony or patio opening to block a neighbour's sightline on demand, then retract fully when you want the view back. We measure, supply and install them with motorized or manual operation, side tracks for wind, and a choice of mesh openness and frame colour.

Outdoor privacy screens for decks, balconies and patios
An outdoor privacy screen is a mesh panel that sits rolled up in a slim aluminum housing above a deck, balcony or patio opening, then lowers on a side track when you want to close off the view. It is not a window screen – the mesh is a tighter, privacy-weave fabric chosen to cut visibility across rather than just keep insects out. Lower-openness weaves read as nearly solid from the outside during the day, while still letting a breeze and some light through from inside.
The honest trade-off is direction and time of day. During daylight, with the inside darker than the outside, a privacy screen genuinely hides what is happening behind it. At night, with interior lights on and the outside dark, that relationship flips – a lit room behind a privacy screen is visible in silhouette, the same way a sheer curtain is. We tell every customer this before they buy, because it is the single most common misunderstanding about the product.
We install these on a reinforced aluminum frame, measured to the exact opening, with a choice of motorized or hand-crank operation and a side-track system on exposed balconies to stop the mesh flapping in wind. Housing and track colours are matched to your existing trim rather than left as a standalone fixture. Every install carries our 5-year warranty, in writing.
What it solves

Block a direct sightline from a neighbour's deck
If a neighbour's deck, second-storey window or shared fence line looks straight into yours, a privacy screen closes that sightline on the side that needs it, without boxing in the whole space. It rolls back up the moment you want the view and airflow open again, which a fence or a wall cannot do.

Condo and townhouse balconies
Condo boards are often strict about anything permanent on a balcony railing or facade. A retracting screen mounts to the ceiling or header of the balcony itself rather than the railing, and it disappears into its housing when not in use, which makes it easier to get past a board's exterior-alteration rules than a fixed panel or glass.

Hot tub privacy without a permanent wall
A hot tub on an open deck gets looked at from every angle around it. Screening the open sides on the sections that face a property line or a street gives you privacy while using the hot tub, then retracts when you want full sun and view the rest of the time.

Exposed or windy balconies
A screen that just hangs loose in front of an opening will flap and bang in any real wind. On exposed balconies and upper floors we run the mesh in a side track on both edges, so it is held flat and does not billow or chafe against the frame in a gust.

An alternative to a fence, lattice or hedge
A fence or lattice is permanent, usually needs a permit past a certain height, and blocks light and airflow even when you do not want it to. A hedge takes years to grow in and needs ongoing maintenance. A retractable privacy screen goes up in a day, needs no permit in most residential cases, and you choose exactly when it is closed.

Matching the look of the house
The housing, track and frame come in a handful of finish options, and the mesh itself reads differently depending on weave and colour – a darker weave disappears against a dark trim, a lighter one blends into a stucco or beige exterior. We pick the combination that sits quietly against the house rather than standing out as an add-on.
Built for Ontario weather, year round
These are not the thin screens that flap, jump their track and get rolled up at the first breeze. Our retractable screens run in magnetic side rails on an aluminum frame, and the numbers below are what set them apart.
One screen covers an opening up to 30 feet wide and 20 feet tall, so a full-width patio or a two-storey porch gets one clean panel instead of two or three joined together.
Independently evaluated to a 120 km/h (75 mph) design wind speed with the screen fully lowered. That is the kind of wind that strips leaves off trees; the screen stays put and keeps doing its job.
Rare-earth magnets in each rail pull the mesh edge back into line after a gust or a knock. There is no zipper to jam and no fabric to re-thread, which is the service call most other screens eventually need.
The magnets hold the mesh with roughly 750 pounds of pull across the pair of rails. A spring-tensioned track manages a few pounds, which is why those screens bow and flap.
For lakefront, ridge-top and high-rise openings we offer a hurricane-grade version of the same magnetic-rail system, engineered for winds above 250 km/h.
Insect mesh for summer, solar mesh for heat and glare, privacy weave, or clear vinyl panels that turn a covered patio into a wind-free room you can heat and use through fall and winter. It is the cheapest square footage you will ever add to the house.
The motor senses an obstruction and stops before anything is damaged. Run up to 32 screens and 10 schedules from one app, a wall switch or a hand-held remote, with smart-home control if you want it.
The heaviest weighted bottom bar in its class, with retention locks at both ends and a keder-locked fabric edge, keeps mosquitoes, wasps, birds, leaves and the neighbourhood wildlife on the right side of the mesh.
Measured, installed and serviced by ROLLerUP's own installers, with a 5-year warranty in writing and a showroom in Newmarket where you can see the screens work.
Size, wind and holding-force figures are the track system's published technical data and independent evaluation; the wind figure applies to the evaluated screen size, and we confirm the rating for your opening at the free on-site measure.
What it costs
Supplied and installed, a single screen has ranged from $1,400 to $23,500 on real jobs since 2022.
Every project is unique. The final figure depends on the size and number of openings, the options you choose and the site itself, and we put it in writing after a free on-site measure.
What moves the number:
- the width and height of the opening – a wider or taller span needs a reinforced track and a bigger motor
- motorised versus hand-crank operation, which changes both the hardware and the labour
- the mesh grade – a basic insect mesh costs less than a solar-weave or privacy-weave fabric
- how many openings are screened in one visit – several openings on one property share a single measure and install trip
- access and height of the install – a second-storey or hard-to-reach opening takes longer to mount safely
- the frame and housing colour or finish chosen to match the home
- whether an existing structure needs modification before the screen can be mounted to it

Frequently Asked Questions

Where we install this
A GTA deck or balcony usually only gets heavy summer use for a few months, which is exactly when sightlines to a neighbour's yard or a hot tub matter most. Condo and townhouse boards across the region tend to be cautious about anything bolted to a railing, which is one reason a retractable, ceiling-mounted screen clears approval more easily than a fixed glass or lattice panel. We've completed 30 installs in Toronto and 15 installs in Richmond Hill since 2022, mostly on exactly this kind of deck and balcony privacy job.
